Scuba Diving In Mauritius

Hi Michelle, thanks for sharing your blog and amazing photos with the Travel Massive community! How far from shore are the reefs? Can you do night diving and is there much to see?

Hi Ian, thank you for your kind words.
The dive sites are approximately a 15mins to 30mins boat ride away from shore, depending on where you are staying on the island.

You can absolutely go night diving, which is my favourite type of dive along with wreck diving. On our last night dive, after 14yrs of trying to find it, I finally spotted the rare Spanish Dancer Nudibranch (sea slug) which get's it name from the way it wriggles its body like a flamenco dancer.

In terms of what you can see, Mauritius has plenty of variety including very rare species, it might not be in abundance like the Maldives or Indonesia but it's there if you know where to look, however, the pièce de résistance has to be the wrecks. On one of my dives I discovered the rare candy crab which I'm used to only seeing in Asia, so it was a very nice find especially for the dive centre as they had never seen one before.
