Learn about the long association with carts, carriages & horses in the old suburbs of Cape Town's Western Cape.

This short film visits the Anthony family (known as 'The Horse People') in Sandvlei Macassar who continue the old tradition of non-motorised transport through their love for horses and carts. The family business dates back four generations, and provided horse taxis, milk rounds, and transport services across Cape Town.

Tours of the family home and horses can be arranged with Halaal Hopper (Fayrouz October) at halaalhopper.wordpress.com

Cape Town, known to us as the Mother City has a long history, and part of that history are the Malay people that were brought to the Cape Colony as slaves. Their stories form a major part of our history and had a major influence on our culture.

Visitors to our city often focus on the scenic beauty and are dazzled by the fancy restaurants and hotels but it is the real people that make the Cape and Cape Town.

The fancy food you eat that is so Cape Town, the origin is from the Malay. I'm currently on a mission to uncover the "overlooked" Stories and people and to share them. The Anthony family are but just one remarkable family living in this city I now call home.

The Cape Malays is the thread in the tapestry that brings the uniqueness of Cape Town-rich in heritage, culture and cuisine
Through the trials and tribulations of being enslaved, not freedom of movement and religion didn't hold our forefathers back it made them even stronger, today Alhamdulilah Islam is over 350yrs strong and still growing
Let us take you on a journey where you wil feel enriched!

This is such a beautiful story and so close to home as part of my own heritage and culture as I just visited Aunty Sieda which was the first story video we collaborated on, I got my donut fix and we spoke about horses from ou family and training that Taahirah who drives a horse and cart in her video is busy with for an upcoming horse show in Mooreesburg which there is also a video about. So do check out the YouTube channel and subscribe and start watching all the videos. www.youtube.com/c/africantravelcrew
